Dead Drop for EMMAP (Emotional Mapping of Museum Augmented Places) in Castello al Monte

closeA deaddrop functionality has been added to the EMMAP experiences outside the Archaeological Museum of San Severino Marche (Italy). Dead drop is a project of the Berlin based media artist Aram Bartholl. He says that: “Dead Drops is an anonymous, offline, peer to peer file-sharing network in public space. USB flash drives are embedded into walls, buildings and curbs accessable to anybody in public space. Everyone is invited to drop or find files on a dead drop. Plug your laptop to a wall, house or pole to share your favorite files and data. Each dead drop is installed empty except a readme.txt file explaining the project. Dead Drops is open to participation”. Citizens, tourists or other students, with a smartphone and useful software, can find materials produced by trials in a USB pen drive just outside the archaeological museum of San Severino Marche. The USB pen drive is embedded in a wall in front of the belvedere of Castello al Monte. Consequently, people, tourists or other students passing nearby the museum, in Castello al Monte, could observe images or listen to sounds left by trial participants. Moreover, people could download high quality materials in the USB pen drive embedded in front of the belvedere. Emotional Mapping of Museum Augmented Places (EMMAP) has been developed during the PhD program in “e-Learning” at the Faculty of Engineering, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona, Italy. EMMAP is devoted to promote mobile and ubiquitous learning environments in museums or in other places of historic-cultural interest. In this location there is an Archeological Museum mainly devoted to “Piceni” warriors. During the trials, 115 high school students played with “augmented reality” and “dead drop” creating drawings, audio files and stories to be shared within the dead drop with past-present-future visitors.
